Welcome to
northern lights
service unit!

The Northern Lights Service Unit is part of the Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys Council.  There are 40+ troops with over 500 registered Girl Scouts.

Our geographic area includes North St. Paul and portions of Maplewood and Oakdale.  We deliver the Girl Scout Leadership Program to girls attending Castle, Cowern, Richardson, Weaver, and Webster elementary schools, St. Peter and Presentation of Mary Catholic schools, John Glenn and Maplewood middle schools, as well as the two high schools in our area, North High and Tartan.

Mission Statement
Girl Scouts of the USA is the world's largest organization focused on and dedicated to girls - all girls- everywhere.  GSUSA promotes building character and learning skills that empower and enable girls to succeed throughout their lives.

It is with this overall mission that the Northern Lights Service Unit operates to serve girls in our area.

The Girl Scout Promise
On my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
to be a sister to every Girl Scout.
A LITTLE GIRL'S HEART
"I must be crazy, I'm out of my mind,"
I say this every week before meeting time.
Four will show up and eight will not call;
I really don't know why I do this at all.
We make plans for camp.
Two nights and three days.
It takes them an hour
to choose grape Kool-Aid!
Not worth it, I think.
Do they care, I ask?
It's just what I need,
one more thankless task.
Then one of them smiles
and rolls out the dough.
"My mother won't let me
bake cookies, you know."
We mop up the paint.
And I hear from one,
"Let's do it again
I had so much fun."
The first time away
in tents in the rain
One hugs me and says
"I'm so glad I came."
So when I feel low
and ask myself "Why?"
I try to picture
the look in that eye.
The grin on that face,
that one homemade card -

A leader's reward -

A little girl's heart.
